Social Media Coordinator at Gear Patrol

Job Description:
Gear Patrol is seeking a full-time Social Media Coordinator to join our growing team. The Social Media Coordinator is an essential role, acting as Gear Patrol’s voice and visual identity on external platforms. Success in this position comes from an obsessive attention to detail, quick critical thinking skills and strong creative instincts. 

Qualified candidates must have a proven track record in community management and growing followings on platforms including, but not limited to, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. This position will be responsible for executing organic and paid social media and search campaigns, as well as leading the creative voice and copy for all channels. Candidates must have an “always-on” mentality, understanding of the fact that social media conversations can happen at any time of day or night. Like all Gear Patrol team members, the right candidate should live and breathe products, be deeply passionate about our mission, operate from a positive mindset, and lead by example. 

The candidate will report directly to the Editorial Coordinator.

  • Help grow Gear Patrol’s audience and brand reputation across all relevant properties.
  • Implement and coordinate Gear Patrol’s social media publishing strategy for existing editorial, content studio and native advertising projects.
  • Schedule daily posts across social media platforms and manage the social media calendar.
  • Work with the editorial team to coordinate and/or execute complementary social media opportunities that arise during the content production process.
  • Pitch and coordinate exclusive and/or “live” social media content across assigned platforms.
  • Lead healthy and responsible growth across managed platforms through editorial programs and actionable initiatives.
  • Initiate and manage paid social media boosts and promotions as assigned.
  • Maintain “always on” work flexibility to handle communication needs outside of typical business hours, as well as last minute travel and events.
  • Communicate directly with social media platform operators to increase Gear Patrol’s exposure and positioning.
  • Lead and coordinate giveaways opportunities with like-minded brands to grow Gear Patrol’s subscriber base and social media followers.
  • Direct initiatives to cross promote Gear Patrol’s social media content in relevant ways across all Gear Patrol properties.
  • Monitor reader outreach and work with the editorial team to coordinate responses.
  • Monitor conversations and trends across social media platforms to inform the editorial team about relevant story ideas and trending topics.
  • Produce regular stories recapping our audience dialog and exclusive social media content.
  • Develop and maintain the Gear Patrol social media communication style guide.
  • Work alongside the Editorial Coordinator to produce and update regular reports outlining social media performance.
  • Share successes and failures with Gear Patrol team members during weekly meetings to enhance company learnings.
  • Work alongside Gear Patrol’s revenue team to create exclusive native advertising and content studio social media content to extend campaign reach.
  • Support Gear Patrol’s efforts to earn industry recognition and awards.
  • Serve as an on-camera representative for Gear Patrol’s editorial team across various social media outlets as needed.
  • Serve as an ambassador for Gear Patrol’s social media team while attending external events, conferences and tradeshows.
  • Handle variations and changes to this role as needed.


  • 1-2 years experience community management for a publication or brand(s)
  • Experience with Facebook Business Manager, analytics and scheduling tools such as Sprout, Buffer, etc.
  • Familiarity with mobile editing and production software such as VSCO, Snapseed etc.
  • Mobile and traditional photography / videography skills a plus.
  • A strong sense of urgency
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, very strong multi-tasker
  • Excellent writing and copy-editing skills, a proven track record of writing engaging content
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure and to take feedback constructively
  • A love of product, men’s lifestyle, and service journalism
