Caysey Welton at Folio: recapping the major themes from MPA's other annual conference: "This group of publishers still very much believe in their print magazines. That’s not to say they don’t believe in digital media. On the contrary, there were plenty of conversations about digital, and even more on data, which was easily the second most popular word at the conference. But many of these publishers still see print as the foundation of their business models, and digital along with data serving as important buttresses to support those models."
How Popular Science Is Shedding Its Male-Geek Image
Lucia Moses reports "Popular Science has a long tradition, coming up on 150 years, and a largely male one. But over the past year and a half, it’s made significant gains in its female readership. Today, half its online readership is female, double what it was a year and a half ago, per the magazine. Joe Brown, the publication’s editor-in-chief, said that when he started there in August 2016 (after stops at Wired, Gizmodo and an earlier stint at Pop Sci), he came with a mission of making the Bonnier-owned magazine more inclusive, as its name suggests. That approach extended to Brown acknowledging climate change skeptics early on."

Report Shows 83% of Websites Have Issues
The analysis also identified that 44% of websites had at least one critical issue. In fact 68% of websites had issues with un-minified JavaScript and CSS files, 42% experienced slow page HTML load speeds, 43% had uncompressed JavaScript and CSS files, and nearly 25.5% had uncached JavaScript and CSS files.
