Stephen M. Lacy, executive chairman, Meredith Corp. and chairman, MPA – The Association of Magazine Media, welcomed attendees to AMMC and kicked off the conference with an acknowledgement to Meredith Corp.’s recent acquisition of Time Inc. He continued with an overview of the industry’s success in the past year. Linda Thomas Brooks, president and CEO of MPA, took the stage and encouraged attendees to follow the Dalai Lama’s advice: “Keep working on it.” Though there is no single approach that ensures success in the magazine media business, sharing thoughts, perspectives and data helps the industry become as innovative as possible.

The American Society of Magazine Editors has announced the finalists and winners of the 12th ASME Best Cover Contest. The New Yorker's "Blowhard" cover, depicting a Trump-like figure powering a sailboat by blowing into a Klansman's hood, was named Cover of the Year. Entertainment Weekly's election-themed RuPaul cover, “Let’s Hear It for the Red, White and Ru," won the Readers' Choice Award.

For the fifth year, the finalists were first announced in a 90-minute Twittercast. The American Society of Magazine Editors has announced that the 2018 Ellie Awards Annual Luncheon will be hosted by Don Lemon, anchor of “CNN Tonight With Don Lemon.” The editorial leaders of more than 60 print and digital titles—including magazines published by Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines and Meredith Corporation—are expected to be honored on Tuesday, March 13, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
