How Hearst Magazines Stays Unbound
Michael Clinton described being unbound as continually testing new ideas and learning from mistakes while giving yourself permission to win — and permission to fail. Hearst abided by three core principles: produce high-quality content, stay mindful of the brand and be a “print-proud company.” Instead of losing sight of its print roots, the brand strengthened what it does best: making engaging and relevant print content. Or, as Joanna Coles put it, making print “printier.”

Vogue and GQ Will Test Content Inside Amazon’s Echo Look
Max Willens reports "The content will be chosen by Condé Nast and Amazon employees and be updated once a week. Amazon isn’t paying the publications for the content. But Condé Nast was motivated to experiment on the Look, in part, by seeing more readers asking for help choosing products, said Anna-Lisa Yabsley, Vogue’s digital director."
The Atlantic Removes Comments Section, Focuses on Curated Reader Feedback
As of last week, TheAtlantic.com replaced its comments feature with a section dedicated to reader feedback, called "Letters." The new section is inspired by "The Conversation" section of The Atlantic's print magazine, according to Nieman Lab.

Ellie Awards 2018 Finalists Announced
The American Society of Magazine Editors today published the list of finalists for the 2018 National Magazine Awards for Print and Digital Media. For the fifth year, the finalists were first announced in a 90-minute Twittercast. ASME will celebrate the 53rd presentation of the Ellies when each of the 104 finalists is honored at the annual awards lunch.
Don Lemon to Host 2018 National Magazine Awards Lunch
The American Society of Magazine Editors has announced that the 2018 Ellie Awards Annual Luncheon will be hosted by Don Lemon, anchor of “CNN Tonight With Don Lemon.” The editorial leaders of more than 60 print and digital titles—including magazines published by Condé Nast, Hearst Magazines and Meredith Corporation—are expected to be honored on Tuesday, March 13, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
