Industry-Wide Advertising Campaign “Magazine Media. Better. Believe it.”
MPA – The Association of Magazine Media today announced that 123 magazine brands from 30 of its member companies have joined forces in an industry-wide advertising campaign to share the message that magazine media delivers the most credible, trusted, engaging content over any other form of media. Starting this month and running through March 2018 in both print and digital properties, the campaign is estimated to reach 75% of U.S. adults.
Activism, Brand Safety Key Discussion Points At ANA Masters of Marketing
"Brand safety is an issue that all marketers are facing in all mediums, said (P&G's Mark) Pritchard, who is chairman of the ANA board of directors. “We have zero tolerance with our ads being associated with bias, bigotry or hate,” he says. JP Morgan Chase CMO Kristin Lemkau concurred that brand safety is one of the biggest issues facing marketers at the moment. She showed an example of how one of her company’s ads inadvertently was run on a website called “Hillary 4 Prison.” The company is now limiting its display ads to about 10,000 websites (up from about 5,000 it started with earlier this year) it has pre-approved, compared to 400,000 websites previously, she says." TMBI Survey Study Results: Traditional Media Platforms Tout Brand Safety, Score Higher ROI
Traditional media players such as got a thumbs up from 61% of those survey;, 57% and, 55%. Newer digital-focus platforms did not score as well:, 36%; Facebook, 34%; Vox, 32%; BuzzFeed, 27%; YouTube, 27%; Twitter, 26%; Vice, 25%; Snapchat, 25%; and Breitbart, 21%. According to the study, 75% of marketing executives say their campaigns in brand-safe environments have a direct impact on their bottom line -- return in media investment (ROI).

According to media analyst Ken Doctor, at most, 1 or 2 percent of a publication’s monthly unique audience will pay for a digital subscription. Two percent of The Atlantic’s digital audience, based on its May peak of 42.3 million, is 846,000. Conversion in the 3 to 8 percent range is possible for media companies with well-designed subscription offers and well-executed plans, though, said Patrick Appel, editor in chief of Traffic, a magazine that’s owned by Piano.

Quad/Graphics Awarded Exclusive Agreement to Print 100% of Condé Nast Magazine Titles
Beginning in January 2019, Quad will produce 100% of Condé Nast’s titles, which include many of America’s most prestigious magazines. Quad currently prints Allure, Architectural Digest, Domino (a Condé Nast partnership with Domino Media Group), Golf Digest, GQ, GQ Style, Teen Vogue, Vogue, W Magazine and Wired. Under the new agreement, Quad also will produce Bon Appétit, Brides, Condé Nast Traveler, Glamour, The New Yorker and Vanity Fair. Condé Nast will take advantage of Quad/Graphics’ extensive mailing and distribution services, including its industry-leading co-mailing solutions that help publishers and marketers reduce postage expenses.

“The MPA’s IMAG community prides itself on sharing and learning from one another,” said Andy Clurman, President and CEO of Active Interest Media and Chair of the IMAG Financial Benchmarking Study. “As a board, we thought a benchmarking study would be the ideal way to provide member companies with key metrics to better understand how their performance compares to similar companies.” The survey was conducted in the last quarter of 2016 by Mazars USA, a global accounting firm. Only open to members of the IMAG community, participants received two sets of detailed results: one for all respondents and one broken down by revenue tier.
