Features Editor at Cosmopolitan

Hearst Magazines is seeking a sharp, inquisitive features editor to edit Cosmopolitan's award-winning original reporting across the brand’s digital and print platforms. The ideal candidate is someone who voraciously devours news and is quick to find a fresh angle young women will care about; has big ideas and endless ambition; has a robust network of writers; is a detail-oriented perfectionist when it comes to editing long-form copy; has experience working with art, photo, video, legal, and fact-checking teams; and is, above all else, a compelling storyteller.
 
This position reports to the Features Director of Cosmopolitan.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Ideate, assign, and edit longform reporting, features, and essays across all topics relevant to young women
  • Plan and execute bigger editorial packages and initiatives
  • Constantly be on top of the news, trends, and social issues to spark ideas for deeper reporting on compelling topics that have potential to get attention and go viral
  • Liaise with the art, photo, and video teams to create visual assets that make our stories as rich and compelling as possible
Requirements:
  • Minimum 5-7 years’ editorial experience, with at least 2 years’ experience editing features
  • Excellent editing, reporting, and writing skills
  • Excellent editorial judgment and understanding of journalistic standards
  • Keen awareness of the news cycle and what the prevailing conversations are about it
  • Robust network of freelancer writers
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills
  • Ability to manage both short- and long-lead deadlines 
  • Bachelor's degree
