Eliot Kaplan is the vice president, talent acquisition for Hearst Magazines, a unique position of scouting and recruiting the world’s top editors and art directors for the company’s 21 magazines and start-up ventures. His role also includes career development, succession planning and new-project evaluation.

Kaplan himself has had a distinguished career in magazine editing. In his seven years as editor in chief, Philadelphia won two National Magazine Awards and was nominated a total of five times, including, for the first time in the magazine’s history, in the General Excellence category. The magazine also won many other major awards, including Sigma Delta Chi, Headliners and Clarion.

Before joining Philadelphia, Kaplan was executive editor of GQ. As number two to the legendary Art Cooper, in charge of story assignment, editing and personnel, he helped transform the Condé Nast publication into one of the most influential and successful magazines in the country.

Kaplan is a former board member and officer of ASME. His writing has appeared in Best Life, Bon Appétit, Esquire, Marie Claire and Seventeen. He and his wife, Today Show financial editor Jean Chatzky, live in Westchester County, NY.
